Annual Fund Appeal

Fall 2018

Dear TMS Families and Friends,

TMS is approaching its Golden Anniversary! The 2020-21 school year will mark the 50th anniversary of our founding. This is a significant milestone in the life of a school and I stand in awe of us having reached this moment in our history. We have not sustained this remarkable school through tuition alone; generous donors who preceded us are responsible for this achievement. Tuition serves the present, but philanthropy insures the future.

Over the past 48 years, we have been fortunate to have many donors both large and small who insured our future. These generous individuals supported TMS in two important ways. First, they gave loyally to the Annual Fund each year as parents and then continued to do so as alumni parents. Second, they also responded generously to two capital campaigns. In 2005, a capital campaign led by parents Sue and John Zaharchuk successfully raised over $800,000 and enabled the school to purchase our current property in Dresher. In 2015, many of the same parents and friends of TMS again raised a significant sum to enable TMS to complete a major modernization of our building, directly benefiting our children today.

As we look to our future and 50 more years of excellence in education of the young child, we need to show our gratitude to past families and friends of TMS who brought us to this moment, and take up the banner of philanthropy that they carried for the past 50 years. Now, it is time for the next generation of philanthropists to take charge of the future of The Montessori School.

Looking toward the future, the education provided by TMS is more important now than ever before. There are numerous needs and goals in front of us that will require significant funds above and beyond what can be covered by tuition alone. Examples include:

  • Repaving of our driveway
  • Renovation of our gym and music rooms
  • Lighting in the lower parking lot

As we have learned from those generous individuals who came before us, such expenditures cannot and should not be covered by tuition. We must reserve tuition solely for the education of the current child.

I am writing to you as both a parent and as the Development Director for The Montessori School. In both roles, I am deeply passionate about our School and the journey that we travel together along with our precious children.

This year, our goal for the Annual Fund is aspirational; we would like to raise $75,000. We are asking for participation from every one of our ninety-three TMS families. Please remember that no gift is too small or too large. We can accomplish our goals for the future by having each and everyone participate to their greatest ability.

Thank you all for your generosity and for your love of our school.

Best regards, Kim Coss
